The Surprising Benefits of Exercising at Night

No matter what time of the day you exercise, it is beneficial for your health. Morning exercises are popular because many people like to get it done with so they don’t have to worry about squeezing it in later. However, some people are just not morning people and do not get the most out morning exercises.

If you are one of them, worry not! Exercising at night has its own benefits. Here is a closer look at some of the surprising benefits of night exercise.

Better muscle strength
A 2013 study analyzed the differences in muscle performance between evening exercise and morning exercise in young men. The researchers found that exercise tests in the evening had a significantly higher anaerobic capacity and time to exhaustion in the evening as compared to the morning.

May help some people sleep better
A common reason for not exercising at night is that it might hinder your night sleep. Although that’s true for some people, exercising at night may actually help some people fall asleep. Resistance exercise may help you sleep better at night, and it turns out aerobic exercise may have a similar effect.

More energy
In addition to better muscle strength, exercising at night may increase your over all energy than earlier times in the day. Working out in the morning works amazingly for some people, however, if you still feel sleepy during your workout in the morning, you are probably not getting the most out of your exercise.

Fewer people at the gym
If you exercise at a gym, you know how hard it can be to access the equipment you want when the gym is packed. Mornings, lunch hour and right after work are the usual peak times for gyms. Exercising at off times, like at night, can mean you have greater access to the equipment of your choice.
