Here’s How South Africa’s Porn Habits Compare To The Rest Of The World

It’s the end of the year, meaning its time for us to do some reflection on all the things you’ve done this year. And thanks to Pornhub, we can do some reflection on our porn habits too. As a human population, we’ve consumed a lot of adults entertainment in 2018, with 33.5 billion visits to the site (that’s 92 million visits a day). To put it simply, if you started watching all 2018’s videos in 1903, you would still be watching today!

What You’re Looking For

When it comes to what people like fapping to, Pornhub’s top 4 searches by volume remained the same from 2017 to 2018. These included ‘lesbian’, ‘hentai’, ‘milf’ and ‘stepmom’. “Contrary to popular belief, men are not just interested in youthful bodies,” notes Dr Laurie. “They like the idea of an older, experienced woman and may care less about the perfection of her body.”

Mainstream media is responsible for more than just influencing the way we dress or speak, it also influences our porn habits.  At the top of the global search list for the most searched for porn star is and alleged pre-presidential Donald Trump’s mistress, Stormy Daniels. According to the stats, anytime Stormy was mentioned in the news and online, searches for her surged. Another popular search was the hit game Fornite, whenever the game released a new character, searches for the game would increase dramatically. According to Dr Laurie Betito, Director of the Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center, “searches like these serve as an indication that people use this site to not only satisfy sexual urges but also to get a different angle on something they are already interested in. To see a famous character or hot topic in a sexual context.”

Something For The Ladies

The female population account for 29% of the annual visitors to the site. Lesbian remains a fan favourite for women, as its the most searched and viewed. Women are proportionately 281% more likely to view the ‘Pussy Licking’ category when compared to men, 197% more likely to view ‘Solo Male’ videos and 151% more into ‘Lesbian’ videos. Dr Laurie notes that “women continue to favour lesbian porn. They get to see acts they enjoy on themselves – that’s why ‘pussy licking’ is popular. They also seem to enjoy simple eye candy (‘solo male’) performing just for her. Women are twice as likely to view gangbang and double penetration porn than men, but they are also twice as likely to view romantic themed porn. It’s worth noting that South African women account for 35% of SA’s Pornhub visits, making us the joint-second place for most female visitors to the site.

In 2018 there was a 3% increase in female viewers, meaning that many more women are opening up to the idea of watching porn. So, next time you watch why not ask your partner if they would like to join. It’s a great way to learn about each other’s fantasies and learn something new about your partner.

Us Against The World

This year South Africa ranked at the bottom of the top 20 list, but we’re still ranked second in the world for spending the most time on the site with 10 minutes 57 seconds. When it comes to what we like to watch compared to the rest of the world, it would seem that South Africans are losing interest in ‘lesbian’ porn, as it slipped down two places compared to last year.

Our number one searched category remains ‘black South African’. In fact, SA views the ‘ebony’ category 112% more than the rest of the world. We’re also 71% more into ‘babysitter’ and have a 70% more interest in ‘squirt’ vids. Homegrown searches like ‘Cape Town’, ‘white South African’ and ‘mzansi’ also saw a significant gain. This year our favourite porn star, Mia Khalifa, takes the number one spot from last years fav, Kim Kardashian. The average age of porn-watchers in SA is 34 and the majority of us prefer our viewing entertainment from our phones- talk about handheld entertainment.
